I posted this crochet cover-up video in the first week of June. You would think a breezy beach top would completely take off right before vacation season. Instead, it barely broke six hundred views. I looked back at the footage and realized exactly why my audience scrolled right past it. I started the clip by panning across the fabric instead of putting my face on camera. Lesson learned for both of us. If you want people to stop and listen, they need to see a human being in the first second.
As for the actual sweater, I have complicated feelings. It looks incredibly cute over a simple black swimsuit. The open mesh knit lets the breeze right through, keeping you totally cool when you are melting by a hotel pool. But I need to give you a very practical warning about this specific weave. Because the loops are so large, they will instantly snag on the rough velcro strap of a beach bag or the clasp of a necklace. I actually spent ten minutes trying to unhook my sleeve from my own sunglasses.
It washed up beautifully when I put it inside a mesh laundry bag, so the quality is certainly there. I still think it makes sense to throw in your suitcase for a resort trip. Just remember to treat it like delicate tights rather than a standard cotton shirt.
