Editor's notes
Let me tell you about this absolute flop of a post. I filmed this thinking it would speak to every parent who has ever walked into a hotel room and immediately distrusted the bedspread. The video just shows my hand aggressively misting down every surface with hypochlorous acid. My honest verdict is that the spray itself is incredibly useful. It smells faintly like a swimming pool, and it sanitizes things without leaving a sticky film on the nightstand or bleaching the upholstery.
If you watch closely, you can see my thumb physically cramping from how fast I was dousing the landline phone receiver. Despite that very relatable travel panic, this video was completely ignored by my audience. We are talking under three hundred views. The reason is painfully obvious in hindsight. Nobody wants to watch a disembodied hand spraying a pillowcase for fifteen seconds. To get people to stop scrolling, they need to see a human face making a connection. Next time I talk about hotel hygiene, I will make sure the camera is flipped so you can see my actual expression of horror when I inspect the ice bucket.
