Spring was barely hitting its stride this April, but the sudden heat waves already had my kids begging to live in the backyard from dawn until dinner. This video documents my initial trial of the portable chair mister I bought out of pure parental desperation. It is essentially a chunky plastic fan that clamps onto your patio furniture. The verdict is that it actually works, though it looks a bit ridiculous.

The reservoir holds just enough water to get you through twenty straight minutes of supervising a sandbox excavation. After that, the mist stops and you have to trudge back to the garden hose to refill it. You will also notice a very specific humming noise in the background of the audio. That is the fan motor working overtime to fight the humidity.

This video practically flatlined on the feed with just over three hundred views. The hook simply did not grab people. I suspect most of my audience was still wearing light sweaters and just was not ready to think about the sweltering dog days of summer yet. The engagement rate was surprisingly decent for such a small crowd, though. The moms who actually watched it left comments validating my joke about bringing two insulated cups outside. They understood the assignment perfectly. One tumbler holds ice water for your physical health. The other holds a massive iced coffee just to keep your spirit intact while you sit there watching a four-year-old dig a hole.
