Time for a toy bin upgrade right before summer ☀️
Editor's notes
I posted this video right before the summer chaos hit. I was doing a massive purge of our playroom bins and decided to show exactly what made the cut. The star of the show was a new wooden sorting set. As a licensed early childhood educator, I have a surprisingly low tolerance for plastic toys that light up and sing but do absolutely nothing for a developing brain. I want toys that actually put kids to work.
My honest verdict on this specific sorting set is overwhelmingly positive. It forces toddlers to practice their pincer grasp without feeling like a drill sergeant is watching them. The one detail I was checking for right out of the box was the tension on the wooden tongs. So many brands make them too stiff for little hands. That usually just leads to a toddler throwing the tongs across the room in total frustration. These have exactly the right amount of give.
This video only got a little under two hundred views. It definitely did not break the internet. But the parents who did stick around were highly engaged. I started the video by leaning straight into my teaching background. That instantly filtered out the casual scrollers and kept the moms who were actively dreading the long summer days at home. It was a quiet post. It reached exactly the parents who needed to hear it.
