Sinus infection gym bag essentials: water, tissues, sanitizer, emotional support
Editor's notes
I filmed this during the peak of that awful late-March pollen explosion. The video is just me aggressively packing a canvas tote bag to go walk on a treadmill while completely congested. I threw in two different nasal sprays, a giant insulated cup, a crumpled pack of tissues, and some mint lip balm to trick myself into feeling fresh.
The real hero of this situation was the oversized black hoodie I was wearing. It is basically a wearable security blanket. It hides the fact that you are sweating out a mild fever. It also has a front pocket big enough to hold a frankly absurd amount of cough drops. If you look closely at the video around the three-second mark, you can see a rogue toddler sock stuck to my elbow by static electricity. I completely missed it before posting. That is the reality of trying to film content when your brain is running on cold medicine.
This post barely cracked a thousand views. My audience did not care for it at all. I think the idea of going to the gym while fighting a bug just made everyone mildly uncomfortable. They engaged a little bit because I synced the clips perfectly to the beat of the music. A few fellow moms also appreciated the honesty of choosing to suffer on an elliptical during their only free hour of the day. Mostly though, it flopped because nobody wants to think about someone else's germs in a public fitness space. Next time I will just stay home.
