Let’s be honest… play dates are for the moms, right?!
Editor's notes
If you found this page looking for ways to survive a morning playdate without losing your mind, you are in the right place. The truth about having another mom over is that you desperately just want to drink your warm coffee and have an adult conversation. This video shows exactly how I make that happen. I set up a low-stakes station with chunky wooden puzzles and an absolute mountain of pony beads for bracelet making. It looks like a beautiful morning of early childhood development. In reality, it is a strategic distraction tactic to buy us thirty minutes of peace.
You might notice in the background of the bracelet clip that I put the beads inside a metal baking sheet. That is my favorite classroom trick. When a preschooler inevitably knocks the plastic bowl over, the beads hit the metal rim instead of rolling under the refrigerator. They stay contained. You save yourself from vacuuming up plastic chunks for the next six months.
This clip only got a couple hundred views, but the parents who actually saw it engaged with it heavily. I think it resonated because the activities are totally realistic. You do not need to run to the craft store to pull off a successful morning. Just grab some string and pull out whatever puzzles you have buried in the playroom. The kids stay occupied. You actually get to finish a sentence.
